وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الْبُرُوجِ ١
By the heaven, holding the big stars.
- وَالسَّمَاءِ

وَالْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُودِ ٢
And by the Promised Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection);
- وَالْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُودِ
- And by the Promised Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)
وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ ٣
And by the witnessing day (i.e. Friday), and by the witnessed day [i.e. the day of 'Arafat (Hajj) the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah];
- وَشَاهِدٍ
- And by the witnessing day (i.e. Friday)
- وَمَشْهُودٍ
- and by the witnessed day [i.e. the day of 'Arafat (Hajj) the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah]
قُتِلَ أَصْحَابُ الْأُخْدُودِ ٤
Cursed were the people of the ditch (the story of the Boy and the King).

النَّارِ ذَاتِ الْوَقُودِ ٥
Fire supplied (abundantly) with fuel,

إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌ ٦
When they sat by it (fire),
- إِذْ هُمْ

- قُعُودٌ
- (fire)
وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌ ٧
And they witnessed what they were doing against the believers (i.e. burning them).
- وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ
- And they witnessed what they were doing
- بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ
- against the believers
- شُهُودٌ
- (i.e. burning them)
وَمَا نَقَمُوا مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا أَن يُؤْمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَمِيدِ ٨
They had nothing against them, except that they believed in Allah, the All-Mighty, Worthy of all Praise!
- وَمَا نَقَمُوا مِنْهُمْ
- They had nothing against them
- إِلَّا أَن يُؤْمِنُوا
- except that they believed
- بِاللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَمِيدِ
- in Allah, the All-Mighty, Worthy of all Praise!
الَّذِي لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۚ وَاللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ ٩
Who, to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth! And Allah is Witness over everything.
- الَّذِي لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۚ
- Who, to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth!
- وَاللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ
- And Allah is Witness over everything.
