هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ ١

Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection);

هَلْ أَتَاكَ

Has there come to you

حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ

the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَاشِعَةٌ ٢

Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.).

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ

Some faces, that Day,

خَاشِعَةٌ

will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.).

عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ ٣

Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace).

عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ

تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً ٤

They will enter in the hot blazing Fire,

تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً

They will enter in the hot blazing Fire

تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ ٥

They will be given to drink from a boiling spring,

تُسْقَىٰ

They will be given to drink

مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ

from a boiling spring

لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ ٦

No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant,

لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ

No food will there be for them

طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن

but a

ضَرِيعٍ

poisonous thorny plant

لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِي مِن جُوعٍ ٧

Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger.

لَّا يُسْمِنُ

Which will not nourish

وَلَا يُغْنِي

and will not avail

مِن جُوعٍ

against hunger
