The Reality (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)

مَا الْحَاقَّةُ ٢

What is the Reality?

مَا

What is

الْحَاقَّةُ

the Reality?

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْحَاقَّةُ ٣

And what will make you know what the Reality is?

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ

And what will make you know

مَا الْحَاقَّةُ

what the Reality is?

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ وَعَادٌ بِالْقَارِعَةِ ٤

Thamud and 'Ad people denied the Qari'ah [the striking Hour (of Judgement)]!

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ

Thamud denied

وَعَادٌ

and 'Ad people

بِالْقَارِعَةِ

the Qari'ah [the striking Hour (of Judgement)]

فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهْلِكُوا بِالطَّاغِيَةِ ٥

As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the awful cry!

فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ

As for Thamud,

فَأُهْلِكُوا

they were destroyed

بِالطَّاغِيَةِ

by the awful cry!

وَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَأُهْلِكُوا بِرِيحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍ ٦

And as for 'Ad, they were destroyed by a furious violent wind;

وَأَمَّا عَادٌ

And as for 'Ad,

فَأُهْلِكُوا

they were destroyed

بِرِيحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍ

by a furious violent wind;

سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَثَمَانِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومًا فَتَرَى الْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ ٧

Which Allah imposed on them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so that you could see men lying overthrown (destroyed), as if they were hollow trunks of date-palms!

سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ

Which Allah imposed on them

سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَثَمَانِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومًا

for seven nights and eight days in succession

فَتَرَى الْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَىٰ

so that you could see men lying overthrown (destroyed)

كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ

as if they were hollow trunks of date-palms

فَهَلْ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّن بَاقِيَةٍ ٨

Do you see any remnants of them?

فَهَلْ تَرَىٰ

Do you see

لَهُم

any for them

مِّن بَاقِيَةٍ

remnants

وَجَاءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَن قَبْلَهُ وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَاتُ بِالْخَاطِئَةِ ٩

And Fir'aun (Pharaoh), and those before him, and the cities overthrown [the towns of the people of [Lout (Lot)] committed sin,

وَجَاءَ فِرْعَوْنُ

And Fir'aun (Pharaoh) came

وَمَن قَبْلَهُ

and those before him

وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَاتُ

and the cities overthrown

بِالْخَاطِئَةِ

committed sin

فَعَصَوْا رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ أَخْذَةً رَّابِيَةً ١٠

And they disobeyed their Lord's Messenger, so He punished them with a strong punishment.

فَعَصَوْا رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ

And they disobeyed their Lord's Messenger

فَأَخَذَهُمْ

so He punished them

أَخْذَةً رَّابِيَةً

with a strong punishment

إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَى الْمَاءُ حَمَلْنَاكُمْ فِي الْجَارِيَةِ ١١

Verily! When the water rose beyond its limits [Nuh's (Noah) Flood], We carried you (mankind) in the floating [ship that was constructed by Nuh (Noah)].

إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَى الْمَاءُ

Verily! When the water rose beyond its limits

حَمَلْنَاكُمْ

We carried you

فِي الْجَارِيَةِ

in the floating [ship that was constructed by Nuh (Noah)]

لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَتَعِيَهَا أُذُنٌ وَاعِيَةٌ ١٢

That We might make it a remembrance for you, and the keen ear (person) may (hear and) understand it.

لِنَجْعَلَهَا

That We might make it

لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً

a remembrance for you

وَتَعِيَهَا

and (that) the keen ear (person) may (hear and)

أُذُنٌ وَاعِيَةٌ

understand it.
