وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِي شِيَعِ الْأَوَّلِينَ ١٠

Indeed, We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad SAW) amongst the sects (communities) of old.

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا

Indeed, We sent

مِن قَبْلِكَ

before you (O Muhammad SAW)

فِي شِيَعِ الْأَوَّلِينَ

amongst the sects (communities) of old

وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ ١١

And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him.

وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ

And never came a Messenger to them

إِلَّا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ

but they did mock him.

كَذَٰلِكَ نَسْلُكُهُ فِي قُلُوبِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ ١٢

Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter into the hearts of the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)].

كَذَٰلِكَ

Thus do We

نَسْلُكُهُ

let it (polytheism and disbelief)

فِي قُلُوبِ

enter into the hearts of

الْمُجْرِمِينَ

the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)]

لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ ۖ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ سُنَّةُ الْأَوَّلِينَ ١٣

They would not believe in it (the Quran), and already the example of (Allah's punishment of) the ancients (who disbelieved) has gone forth.

لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ ۖ

They would not believe in it (the Quran)

وَقَدْ خَلَتْ سُنَّةُ الْأَوَّلِينَ

and already the example of (Allah's punishment of) the ancients (who disbelieved) has gone forth

وَلَوْ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًا مِّنَ السَّمَاءِ فَظَلُّوا فِيهِ يَعْرُجُونَ ١٤

And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto,

وَلَوْ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًا مِّنَ السَّمَاءِ

And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven

فَظَلُّوا فِيهِ يَعْرُجُونَ

and they were to continue ascending thereto

لَقَالُوا إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتْ أَبْصَارُنَا بَلْ نَحْنُ قَوْمٌ مَّسْحُورُونَ ١٥

They would surely say: "Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled. Nay, we are a people bewitched."

لَقَالُوا

They would surely say:

إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتْ أَبْصَارُنَا

Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled.

بَلْ نَحْنُ قَوْمٌ مَّسْحُورُونَ

Nay, we are a people bewitched.
