وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ ١

[53:1] By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes).

وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ

[53:10] So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)].

[53:12] Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)].

أَفَتُمَارُونَهُ

Will you then dispute with him

about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]

أَفَتُمَارُونَهُ

[53:14] Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)],

[53:17] The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it).

وَمَا طَغَىٰ

nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it)

مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِ

of the Signs of his Lord

الْكُبْرَىٰ

[53:19] Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs).

أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ

[53:21] Is it for you the males and for Him the females?

and for Him the females?

أَلَكُمُ

[53:22] That indeed is a division most unfair!

إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا أَسْمَاءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَا أَنتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُم مَّا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَانٍ ۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى الْأَنفُسُ ۖ وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ الْهُدَىٰ ٢٣

[53:23] They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord!

إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا أَسْمَاءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَا

They are but names which you have named

أَنتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُم

you and your fathers

مَّا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَانٍ ۚ

for which Allah has sent down no authority

إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ

They follow but a guess

وَمَا تَهْوَى الْأَنفُسُ ۖ

and that which they themselves desire

وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ الْهُدَىٰ

[53:24] Or shall man have what he wishes?

أَمْ لِلْإِنسَانِ

have what he wishes?

[53:25] But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world).

وَالْأُولَىٰ

and the first (the world)

فَلِلَّهِ

۞ وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكٍ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ لَا تُغْنِي شَفَاعَتُهُمْ شَيْئًا إِلَّا مِن بَعْدِ أَن يَأْذَنَ اللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَاءُ وَيَرْضَىٰ ٢٦

[53:26] And there are many angels in the heavens, whose intercession will avail nothing except after Allah has given leave for whom He wills and pleases.

۞ وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكٍ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ

And there are many angels in the heavens,

لَا تُغْنِي شَفَاعَتُهُمْ شَيْئًا

whose intercession will avail nothing

إِلَّا مِن بَعْدِ أَن يَأْذَنَ اللَّهُ

except after Allah has given leave

لِمَن يَشَاءُ وَيَرْضَىٰ

for whom He wills and pleases.

۞ وَكَم

[53:27] Verily, those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ

Verily, those who believe not in the Hereafter

لَيُسَمُّونَ الْمَلَائِكَةَ

name the angels

تَسْمِيَةَ الْأُنثَىٰ

with female names

إِنَّ

وَمَا لَهُم بِهِ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ ۖ وَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ شَيْئًا ٢٨

[53:28] While they have no knowledge thereof. They follow but a guess, and verily, guess is no substitute for the truth.

وَمَا لَهُم بِهِ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ

While they have no knowledge thereof.

إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ ۖ

They follow but a guess,

وَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ شَيْئًا

and verily, guess is no substitute for the truth.

[53:29] Therefore withdraw (O Muhammad SAW) from him who turns away from Our Reminder (this Quran) and desires nothing but the life of this world.

فَأَعْرِضْ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكْرِنَا

Therefore withdraw (O Muhammad SAW) from him who turns away from Our Reminder (this Quran)

وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا

and desires nothing but the life of this world.

فَأَعْرِضْ

ذَٰلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُم مِّنَ الْعِلْمِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اهْتَدَىٰ ٣٠

[53:30] That is what they could reach of knowledge. Verily, your Lord it is He Who knows best him who goes astray from His Path, and He knows best him who receives guidance.

ذَٰلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُم مِّنَ الْعِلْمِ ۚ

That is what they could reach of knowledge.

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِ

Verily, your Lord it is He Who knows best him who goes astray from His Path,

وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اهْتَدَىٰ

and He knows best him who receives guidance.

[53:31] And to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, that He may requite those who do evil with that which they have done (i.e. punish them in Hell), and reward those who do good, with what is best (i.e. Paradise).

وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ

And to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth

لِيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسَاءُوا بِمَا عَمِلُوا

الَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَائِرَ الْإِثْمِ وَالْفَوَاحِشَ إِلَّا اللَّمَمَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَاسِعُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ الْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ ۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوا أَنفُسَكُمْ ۖ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقَىٰ ٣٢

[53:32] Those who avoid great sins (see the Quran, Verses: 6:152, 153) and Al-Fawahish (illegal sexual intercourse, etc.) except the small faults, verily, your Lord is of vast forgiveness. He knows you well when He created you from the earth (Adam), and when you were fetuses in your mothers' wombs. So ascribe not purity to yourselves. He knows best him who fears Allah and keep his duty to Him [i.e. those who are Al-Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2)].

الَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَائِرَ الْإِثْمِ وَالْفَوَاحِشَ

Those who avoid great sins and Al-Fawahish

إِلَّا اللَّمَمَ ۚ

except the small faults

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَاسِعُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ

verily, your Lord is of vast forgiveness

هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ

He knows you well

إِذْ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ الْأَرْضِ

when He created you from the earth

وَإِذْ أَنتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ ۖ

and when you were fetuses in your mothers' wombs

فَلَا تُزَكُّوا أَنفُسَكُمْ ۖ

So ascribe not purity to yourselves

هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقَىٰ

He knows best him who fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him

الَّذِينَ

who fulfilled (or conveyed) all that

وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ

is the End (Return of everything)

وَأَنَّ

Who makes (whom He wills) laugh,

وَأَبْكَىٰ

and makes (whom He wills) weep;

وَأَنَّهُ

is another bringing forth (Resurrection)

وَأَنَّ

[53:48] And that it is He (Allah) Who gives much or a little (or gives wealth and contentment),

وَأَنَّهُ

[53:52] And the people of Nuh (Noah) aforetime, verily, they were more unjust and more rebellious and transgressing [in disobeying Allah and His Messenger Nuh (Noah)].

وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِّن قَبْلُ ۖ

And the people of Nuh (Noah) aforetime,

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا

verily, they were

هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَىٰ

more unjust and more rebellious and transgressing [in disobeying Allah and His Messenger Nuh (Noah)].

وَقَوْمَ

[53:53] And He destroyed the overthrown cities [of Sodom to which Prophet Lout (Lot) was sent].

وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ

the overthrown cities

أَهْوَىٰ

He destroyed

وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ

فَغَشَّاهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ ٥٤

[53:54] So there covered them that which did cover (i.e. torment with stones).

فَغَشَّاهَا

of your Lord

تَتَمَارَىٰ

(O man!) will you doubt

فَبِأَيِّ

[53:56] This (Muhammad SAW) is a warner (Messenger) of the (series of) warners (Messengers) of old.

This (Muhammad SAW) is a warner (Messenger)

مِّنَ النُّذُرِ الْأُولَىٰ

of the (series of) warners (Messengers) of old

هَٰذَا

The Day of Resurrection draws near

لَيْسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ ٥٨

[53:58] None besides Allah can avert it, (or advance it, or delay it).

وَاعْبُدُوا ۩

and worship Him (Alone).
