[43:1] Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings].

[43:3] We verily, have made it a Quran in Arabic, that you may be able to understand (its meanings and its admonitions).

We verily, have made it

لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ

that you may be able to understand (its meanings and its admonitions)

إِنَّا

[43:4] And Verily, it (this Quran) is in the Mother of the Book (i.e. Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz), before Us, indeed Exalted, full of Wisdom.

وَإِنَّهُ

And Verily, it (this Quran)

فِي أُمِّ الْكِتَابِ

is in the Mother of the Book

لَدَيْنَا

before Us

لَعَلِيٌّ حَكِيمٌ

indeed Exalted, full of Wisdom

وَإِنَّهُ

[43:5] Shall We then (warn you not and) take away the Reminder (this Quran) from you, because you are a people Musrifun

أَفَنَضْرِبُ عَنكُمُ الذِّكْرَ

Shall We then take away the Reminder

صَفْحًا

(this Quran) from you,

أَن كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا مُّسْرِفِينَ

because you are a people Musrifun

[43:6] And how many a Prophet have We sent amongst the men of old.

[43:7] And never came there a Prophet to them but they used to mock at him.

إِلَّا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ

[43:8] Then We destroyed men stronger (in power) than these, and the example of the ancients has passed away (before them).

فَأَهْلَكْنَا

Then We destroyed

أَشَدَّ مِنْهُم بَطْشًا

وَمَضَىٰ مَثَلُ الْأَوَّلِينَ

and the example of the ancients has passed away (before them)

وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّنْ خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ لَيَقُولُنَّ خَلَقَهُنَّ الْعَزِيزُ الْعَلِيمُ ٩

[43:9] And indeed if you ask them, "Who has created the heavens and the earth?" They will surely say: "The All-Mighty, the All-Knower created them."

وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم

And indeed if you ask them

مَّنْ خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ

Who has created the heavens and the earth?

لَيَقُولُنَّ

They will surely say:

خَلَقَهُنَّ الْعَزِيزُ الْعَلِيمُ

The All-Mighty, the All-Knower created them.

وَلَئِن

[43:10] Who has made for you the earth like a bed, and has made for you roads therein, in order that you may find your way,

الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ مَهْدًا

Who has made for you the earth like a bed

وَجَعَلَ لَكُمْ فِيهَا سُبُلًا

and has made for you roads therein

لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ

in order that you may find your way

الَّذِي

وَالَّذِي نَزَّلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً بِقَدَرٍ فَأَنشَرْنَا بِهِ بَلْدَةً مَّيْتًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ تُخْرَجُونَ ١١

[43:11] And Who sends down water (rain) from the sky in due measure. Then We revive a dead land therewith, and even so you will be brought forth (from the dead),

وَالَّذِي نَزَّلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً بِقَدَرٍ

And Who sends down water (rain) from the sky in due measure.

فَأَنشَرْنَا بِهِ بَلْدَةً مَّيْتًا ۚ

Then We revive a dead land therewith,

كَذَٰلِكَ تُخْرَجُونَ

and even so you will be brought forth (from the dead),

[43:12] And Who has created all the pairs and has appointed for you ships and cattle on which you ride,

وَالَّذِي خَلَقَ الْأَزْوَاجَ كُلَّهَا

And Who has created all the pairs

وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ الْفُلْكِ وَالْأَنْعَامِ

and has appointed for you ships and cattle

مَا تَرْكَبُونَ

on which you ride

وَالَّذِي

لِتَسْتَوُوا عَلَىٰ ظُهُورِهِ ثُمَّ تَذْكُرُوا نِعْمَةَ رَبِّكُمْ إِذَا اسْتَوَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ وَتَقُولُوا سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ ١٣

[43:13] In order that you may mount firmly on their backs, and then may remember the Favour of your Lord when you mount thereon, and say: "Glory to Him who has subjected this to us, and we could never have it (by our efforts)."

لِتَسْتَوُوا عَلَىٰ ظُهُورِهِ

In order that you may mount firmly on their backs,

ثُمَّ تَذْكُرُوا نِعْمَةَ رَبِّكُمْ

and then may remember the Favour of your Lord

إِذَا اسْتَوَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ

when you mount thereon,

وَتَقُولُوا

and say:

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَٰذَا

"Glory to Him who has subjected this to us,

وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ

and we could never have it (by our efforts).

لِتَسْتَوُوا

[43:14] And verily, to Our Lord we indeed are to return!

وَإِنَّا

we indeed are to return!

[43:15] Yet they assign to some of His slaves a share with Him (by pretending that He has children, and considering them as equals or co-partners in worship with Him). Verily, man is indeed a manifest ingrate!

وَجَعَلُوا لَهُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ جُزْءًا ۚ

Yet they assign to some of His slaves a share with Him

إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَكَفُورٌ مُّبِينٌ

Verily, man is indeed a manifest ingrate

وَجَعَلُوا

[43:16] Or has He taken daughters out of what He has created, and He has selected for you sons?

أَمِ اتَّخَذَ مِمَّا يَخْلُقُ

Or has He taken out of what He has created

and He has selected for you sons

وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم بِمَا ضَرَبَ لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ مَثَلًا ظَلَّ وَجْهُهُ مُسْوَدًّا وَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ ١٧

[43:17] And if one of them is informed of the news of (the birth of) that which he set forth as a parable to the Most Beneficent (Allah) (i.e. of a girl), his face becomes dark, gloomy, and he is filled with grief!

وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم

And if one of them is informed

بِمَا ضَرَبَ لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ مَثَلًا

of the news of (the birth of) that which he set forth as a parable to the Most Beneficent (Allah)

ظَلَّ وَجْهُهُ مُسْوَدًّا

his face becomes dark, gloomy

وَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ

and he is filled with grief!

وَإِذَا

أَوَمَن يُنَشَّأُ فِي الْحِلْيَةِ وَهُوَ فِي الْخِصَامِ غَيْرُ مُبِينٍ ١٨

[43:18] (Do they then like for Allah) a creature who is brought up in adornments (wearing silk and gold ornaments, i.e. women), and in dispute cannot make herself clear?

أَوَمَن يُنَشَّأُ فِي الْحِلْيَةِ

(Do they then like for Allah) a creature who is brought up in adornments

وَهُوَ فِي الْخِصَامِ غَيْرُ مُبِينٍ

(wearing silk and gold ornaments, i.e. women), and in dispute cannot make herself clear?

أَوَمَن

[43:19] And they make the angels who themselves are slaves to the Most Beneficent (Allah) females. Did they witness their creation? Their evidence will be recorded, and they will be questioned!

وَجَعَلُوا الْمَلَائِكَةَ

And they make the angels

الَّذِينَ هُمْ عِبَادُ الرَّحْمَٰنِ

who themselves are slaves to the Most Beneficent (Allah)

إِنَاثًا ۚ

females.

أَشَهِدُوا خَلْقَهُمْ ۚ

Did they witness their creation?

سَتُكْتَبُ شَهَادَتُهُمْ

Their evidence will be recorded,

وَيُسْأَلُونَ

and they will be questioned!

وَجَعَلُوا

وَقَالُوا لَوْ شَاءَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ مَا عَبَدْنَاهُم ۗ مَّا لَهُم بِذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَ ٢٠

[43:20] And they said: "If it had been the Will of the Most Beneficent (Allah), we should not have worshipped them (false deities)." They have no knowledge whatsoever of that. They do nothing but lie!

وَقَالُوا

And they said:

لَوْ شَاءَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ

If it had been the Will of the Most Beneficent (Allah),

مَا عَبَدْنَاهُم ۗ

we should not have worshipped them (false deities).

مَّا لَهُم بِذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ

They have no knowledge whatsoever of that.

إِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَ

They do nothing but lie!

وَقَالُوا

[43:21] Or have We given them any Book before this (the Quran), to which they are holding fast?

أَمْ آتَيْنَاهُمْ

Or have We given them

كِتَابًا مِّن قَبْلِهِ

any Book before this

فَهُم بِهِ

to which they are

مُسْتَمْسِكُونَ

holding fast?

أَمْ

بَلْ قَالُوا إِنَّا وَجَدْنَا آبَاءَنَا عَلَىٰ أُمَّةٍ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِم مُّهْتَدُونَ ٢٢

[43:22] Nay! They say: "We found our fathers following a certain way and religion, and we guide ourselves by their footsteps."

بَلْ قَالُوا

Nay! They say:

إِنَّا وَجَدْنَا آبَاءَنَا

We found our fathers

عَلَىٰ أُمَّةٍ

following a certain way and religion,

وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِم مُّهْتَدُونَ

and we guide ourselves by their footsteps.

وَكَذَٰلِكَ مَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِي قَرْيَةٍ مِّن نَّذِيرٍ إِلَّا قَالَ مُتْرَفُوهَا إِنَّا وَجَدْنَا آبَاءَنَا عَلَىٰ أُمَّةٍ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِم مُّقْتَدُونَ ٢٣

[43:23] And similarly, We sent not a warner before you (O Muhammad SAW) to any town (people) but the luxurious ones among them said: "We found our fathers following a certain way and religion, and we will indeed follow their footsteps."

وَكَذَٰلِكَ مَا أَرْسَلْنَا

And similarly, We sent not

مِن قَبْلِكَ فِي قَرْيَةٍ مِّن نَّذِيرٍ

a warner before you (O Muhammad SAW) to any town (people)

إِلَّا قَالَ مُتْرَفُوهَا

but the luxurious ones among them said:

إِنَّا وَجَدْنَا آبَاءَنَا

We found our fathers

عَلَىٰ أُمَّةٍ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِم مُّقْتَدُونَ

following a certain way and religion, and we will indeed follow their footsteps.

۞ قَالَ أَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكُم بِأَهْدَىٰ مِمَّا وَجَدتُّمْ عَلَيْهِ آبَاءَكُمْ ۖ قَالُوا إِنَّا بِمَا أُرْسِلْتُم بِهِ كَافِرُونَ ٢٤

[43:24] (The warner) said: "Even if I bring you better guidance than that which you found your fathers following?" They said: "Verily, We disbelieve in that with which you have been sent."

۞ قَالَ أَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكُم بِأَهْدَىٰ مِمَّا وَجَدتُّمْ عَلَيْهِ آبَاءَكُمْ ۖ

The warner said: 'Even if I bring you better guidance than that which you found your fathers following?'

قَالُوا إِنَّا بِمَا أُرْسِلْتُم بِهِ كَافِرُونَ

They said: 'Verily, We disbelieve in that with which you have been sent.'

[43:25] So We took revenge of them, then see what was the end of those who denied (Islamic Monotheism).

فَانتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ ۖ

So We took revenge of them

فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ

then see what was the end of

الْمُكَذِّبِينَ

those who denied (Islamic Monotheism)

فَانتَقَمْنَا

[43:26] And (remember) when Ibrahim (Abraham) said to his father and his people: "Verily, I am innocent of what you worship,

وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ

And (remember) when Ibrahim (Abraham) said

لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِ

to his father and his people

إِنَّنِي بَرَاءٌ مِّمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ

Verily, I am innocent of what you worship

[43:27] "Except Him (i.e. I worship none but Allah Alone) Who did create me, and verily, He will guide me."

إِلَّا الَّذِي فَطَرَنِي

Except Him (i.e. I worship none but Allah Alone) Who did create me

فَإِنَّهُ سَيَهْدِينِ

and verily, He will guide me.

[43:28] And he made it [i.e. La ilaha ill-Allah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah Alone)] a Word lasting among his offspring (True Monotheism), that they may turn back (i.e. to repent to Allah or receive admonition).

وَجَعَلَهَا

And he made it

كَلِمَةً بَاقِيَةً

[i.e. La ilaha ill-Allah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah Alone)] a Word lasting

فِي عَقِبِهِ

among his offspring

لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ

that they may turn back (i.e. to repent to Allah or receive admonition)

وَجَعَلَهَا

[43:29] Nay, but I gave (the good things of this life) to these (polytheists) and their fathers to enjoy, till there came to them the truth (the Quran), and a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) making things clear.

بَلْ مَتَّعْتُ هَٰؤُلَاءِ

Nay, but I gave (the good things of this life) to these (polytheists)

وَآبَاءَهُمْ

and their fathers

حَتَّىٰ جَاءَهُمُ الْحَقُّ

to enjoy, till there came to them the truth (the Quran)

وَرَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌ

and a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) making things clear

بَلْ

[43:30] And when the truth (this Quran) came to them, they (the disbelievers in this Quran) said: "This is magic, and we disbelieve therein."

وَلَمَّا جَاءَهُمُ الْحَقُّ

And when the truth (this Quran) came to them

قَالُوا هَٰذَا سِحْرٌ

they (the disbelievers in this Quran) said: 'This is magic'

وَإِنَّا بِهِ كَافِرُونَ

and we disbelieve therein.

وَلَمَّا

وَقَالُوا لَوْلَا نُزِّلَ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنُ عَلَىٰ رَجُلٍ مِّنَ الْقَرْيَتَيْنِ عَظِيمٍ ٣١

[43:31] And they say: "Why is not this Quran sent down to some great man of the two towns (Makkah and Ta'if)?"

وَقَالُوا

And they say:

لَوْلَا نُزِّلَ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنُ

Why is not this Quran sent down

عَلَىٰ رَجُلٍ مِّنَ الْقَرْيَتَيْنِ

to some great man of the two towns

عَظِيمٍ

(Makkah and Ta'if)?

وَقَالُوا

أَهُمْ يَقْسِمُونَ رَحْمَتَ رَبِّكَ ۚ نَحْنُ قَسَمْنَا بَيْنَهُم مَّعِيشَتَهُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۚ وَرَفَعْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ دَرَجَاتٍ لِّيَتَّخِذَ بَعْضُهُم بَعْضًا سُخْرِيًّا ۗ وَرَحْمَتُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ ٣٢

[43:32] Is it they who would portion out the Mercy of your Lord? It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in this world, and We raised some of them above others in ranks, so that some may employ others in their work. But the Mercy (Paradise) of your Lord (O Muhammad SAW) is better than the (wealth of this world) which they amass.

أَهُمْ يَقْسِمُونَ رَحْمَتَ رَبِّكَ ۚ

Is it they who would portion out the Mercy of your Lord?

نَحْنُ قَسَمْنَا بَيْنَهُم مَّعِيشَتَهُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۚ

It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in this world,

وَرَفَعْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ دَرَجَاتٍ

and We raised some of them above others in ranks,

لِّيَتَّخِذَ بَعْضُهُم بَعْضًا سُخْرِيًّا ۗ

so that some may employ others in their work.

وَرَحْمَتُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ

But the Mercy (Paradise) of your Lord (O Muhammad SAW) is better than the (wealth of this world) which they amass.

وَلَوْلَا أَن يَكُونَ النَّاسُ أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً لَّجَعَلْنَا لِمَن يَكْفُرُ بِالرَّحْمَٰنِ لِبُيُوتِهِمْ سُقُفًا مِّن فِضَّةٍ وَمَعَارِجَ عَلَيْهَا يَظْهَرُونَ ٣٣

[43:33] And were it not that all mankind would have become of one community (all disbelievers, desiring worldly life only), We would have provided for those who disbelieve in the Most Beneficent (Allah), silver roofs for their houses, and elevators (and stair-ways, etc. of silver) whereby they ascend,

وَلَوْلَا أَن يَكُونَ النَّاسُ أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً

And were it not that all mankind would have become of one community

لَّجَعَلْنَا لِمَن يَكْفُرُ بِالرَّحْمَٰنِ

We would have provided for those who disbelieve in the Most Beneficent (Allah)

لِبُيُوتِهِمْ سُقُفًا مِّن فِضَّةٍ

silver roofs for their houses

وَمَعَارِجَ عَلَيْهَا يَظْهَرُونَ

and elevators (and stair-ways, etc. of silver) whereby they ascend

وَلَوْلَا

[43:34] And for their houses, doors (of silver), and thrones (of silver) on which they could recline,

وَلِبُيُوتِهِمْ

And for their houses,

أَبْوَابًا

doors (of silver),

وَسُرُرًا

and thrones (of silver)

عَلَيْهَا يَتَّكِئُونَ

on which they could recline,

وَلِبُيُوتِهِمْ

عَلَيْهَا

يَتَّكِئُونَ

وَزُخْرُفًا ۚ وَإِن كُلُّ ذَٰلِكَ لَمَّا مَتَاعُ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۚ وَالْآخِرَةُ عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ ٣٥

[43:35] And adornments of gold. Yet all this (i.e. the roofs, doors, stairs, elevators, thrones etc. of their houses) would have been nothing but an enjoyment of this world. And the Hereafter with your Lord is only for the Muttaqun.

وَزُخْرُفًا ۚ

And adornments of gold.

وَإِن كُلُّ ذَٰلِكَ

Yet all this

لَمَّا مَتَاعُ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۚ

would have been nothing but an enjoyment of this world.

وَالْآخِرَةُ عِندَ رَبِّكَ

And the Hereafter with your Lord

لِلْمُتَّقِينَ

is only for the Muttaqun.

وَزُخْرُفًا ۚ

لِلْمُتَّقِينَ

(is) for the righteous · Root: و ق ي · Noun

وَمَن يَعْشُ عَن ذِكْرِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ نُقَيِّضْ لَهُ شَيْطَانًا فَهُوَ لَهُ قَرِينٌ ٣٦

[43:36] And whosoever turns away (blinds himself) from the remembrance of the Most Beneficent (Allah) (i.e. this Quran and worship of Allah), We appoint for him Shaitan (Satan - devil) to be a Qarin (an intimate companion) to him.

وَمَن يَعْشُ عَن ذِكْرِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ

And whosoever turns away (blinds himself) from the remembrance of the Most Beneficent (Allah)

نُقَيِّضْ لَهُ شَيْطَانًا

We appoint for him Shaitan (Satan - devil)

فَهُوَ لَهُ قَرِينٌ

to be a Qarin (an intimate companion) to him

وَمَن

وَإِنَّهُمْ لَيَصُدُّونَهُمْ عَنِ السَّبِيلِ وَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ ٣٧

[43:37] And verily, they (Satans / devils) hinder them from the Path (of Allah), but they think that they are guided aright!

وَإِنَّهُمْ

And verily, they

لَيَصُدُّونَهُمْ عَنِ السَّبِيلِ

hinder them from the Path

وَيَحْسَبُونَ

but they think

أَنَّهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ

that they are guided aright!

وَإِنَّهُمْ

surely, turn them · Root: ص د د · Verb

عَنِ

السَّبِيلِ

وَيَحْسَبُونَ

أَنَّهُم

that they · Root: أ ن ه م · Particle

مُّهْتَدُونَ

(are) guided · Root: ه د ي · Noun

حَتَّىٰ إِذَا جَاءَنَا قَالَ يَا لَيْتَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ بُعْدَ الْمَشْرِقَيْنِ فَبِئْسَ الْقَرِينُ ٣٨

[43:38] Till, when (such a one) comes to Us, he says [to his Qarin (Satan / devil companion)] "Would that between me and you were the distance of the two easts (or the east and west)" a worst (type of) companion (indeed)!

حَتَّىٰ إِذَا جَاءَنَا

Till, when (such a one) comes to Us,

قَالَ يَا لَيْتَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ بُعْدَ

he says [to his Qarin (Satan / devil companion)] 'Would that between me and you were

الْمَشْرِقَيْنِ فَبِئْسَ

the distance of the two easts (or the east and west)'

الْقَرِينُ

a worst (type of) companion (indeed)!

وَلَن يَنفَعَكُمُ الْيَوْمَ إِذ ظَّلَمْتُمْ أَنَّكُمْ فِي الْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ ٣٩

[43:39] It will profit you not this Day (O you who turn away from Allah's remembrance and His worship, etc.) as you did wrong, (and) that you will be sharers (you and your Qarin) in the punishment.

وَلَن يَنفَعَكُمُ الْيَوْمَ

It will profit you not this Day

إِذ ظَّلَمْتُمْ

as you did wrong

أَنَّكُمْ فِي الْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ

that you will be sharers (you and your Qarin) in the punishment

وَلَن

[43:40] Can you (O Muhammad SAW) make the deaf to hear, or can you guide the blind or him who is in manifest error?

أَفَأَنتَ

Can you (O Muhammad SAW)

تُسْمِعُ الصُّمَّ

make the deaf to hear

أَوْ

or

تَهْدِي الْعُمْيَ

can you guide the blind

وَمَن كَانَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ

or him who is in manifest error?

[43:41] And even if We take you (O Muhammad SAW) away, We shall indeed take vengeance on them.

فَإِمَّا نَذْهَبَنَّ بِكَ

And even if We take you (O Muhammad SAW) away,

فَإِنَّا مِنْهُم مُّنتَقِمُونَ

We shall indeed take vengeance on them.

فَإِمَّا

[43:42] Or (if) We show you that wherewith We threaten them, then verily, We have perfect command over them.

that wherewith We threaten them

فَإِنَّا عَلَيْهِم مُّقْتَدِرُونَ

[43:43] So hold you (O Muhammad SAW) fast to that which is inspired in you. Verily, you are on a Straight Path.

فَاسْتَمْسِكْ بِالَّذِي أُوحِيَ إِلَيْكَ ۖ

So hold you (O Muhammad SAW) fast to that which is inspired in you.

إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ

Verily, you are on a Straight Path.

فَاسْتَمْسِكْ

[43:44] And verily, this (the Quran) is indeed a Reminder for you (O Muhammad SAW) and your people (Quraish people, or your followers), and you will be questioned (about it).

وَإِنَّهُ لَذِكْرٌ

And verily, this (the Quran) is indeed a Reminder

لَّكَ

for you (O Muhammad SAW)

وَلِقَوْمِكَ ۖ

and your people (Quraish people, or your followers)

وَسَوْفَ تُسْأَلُونَ

and you will be questioned (about it)

وَإِنَّهُ

وَاسْأَلْ مَنْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ مِن رُّسُلِنَا أَجَعَلْنَا مِن دُونِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ آلِهَةً يُعْبَدُونَ ٤٥

[43:45] And ask (O Muhammad SAW) those of Our Messengers whom We sent before you: "Did We ever appoint aliha (gods) to be worshipped besides the Most Beneficent (Allah)?"

وَاسْأَلْ مَنْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ

And ask (O Muhammad SAW) those of Our Messengers whom We sent before you:

مِن رُّسُلِنَا أَجَعَلْنَا مِن دُونِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ

Did We ever appoint aliha (gods) to be worshipped besides the Most Beneficent (Allah)?

وَاسْأَلْ

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ بِآيَاتِنَا إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَئِهِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي رَسُولُ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ٤٦

[43:46] And indeed We did send Musa (Moses) with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs (inviting them to Allah's Religion of Islam) He said: "Verily, I am a Messenger of the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)."

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ

And indeed We did send Musa (Moses)

بِآيَاتِنَا

with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.)

إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَئِهِ

to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs

فَقَالَ

He said:

إِنِّي رَسُولُ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

"Verily, I am a Messenger of the Lord of the \'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)."

وَلَقَدْ

[43:47] But when he came to them with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) behold! They laughed at them.

فَلَمَّا جَاءَهُم

[43:48] And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)].

وَمَا نُرِيهِم مِّنْ آيَةٍ

And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them

إِلَّا هِيَ أَكْبَرُ مِنْ أُخْتِهَا ۖ

but it was greater than its fellow

وَأَخَذْنَاهُم بِالْعَذَابِ

and We seized them with torment

لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ

in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]

[43:49] And they said [to Musa (Moses)]: "O you sorcerer! Invoke your Lord for us according to what He has covenanted with you. Verily, We shall guide ourselves (aright)."

وَقَالُوا

And they said

يَا أَيُّهَ السَّاحِرُ ادْعُ

O you sorcerer!

لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا

Invoke your Lord for us

عَهِدَ عِندَكَ إِنَّنَا

according to what He has covenanted with you.

لَمُهْتَدُونَ

Verily, We shall guide ourselves (aright).

وَقَالُوا

[43:50] But when We removed the torment from them, behold! They broke their covenant (that they will believe if We remove the torment for them).

فَلَمَّا كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُمُ الْعَذَابَ

[43:51] And Fir'aun (Pharaoh) proclaimed among his people, saying: "O my people! Is not mine the dominion of Egypt, and these rivers flowing underneath me. See you not then?

وَنَادَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ فِي قَوْمِهِ

And Fir'aun (Pharaoh) proclaimed among his people,

قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ أَلَيْسَ

saying: 'O my people!

لِي مُلْكُ مِصْرَ وَهَٰذِهِ

Is not mine the dominion of Egypt,

الْأَنْهَارُ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِي ۖ أَفَلَا

and these rivers flowing underneath me.

تُبْصِرُونَ

See you not then?

وَنَادَىٰ

أَمْ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِّنْ هَٰذَا الَّذِي هُوَ مَهِينٌ وَلَا يَكَادُ يُبِينُ ٥٢

[43:52] "Am I not better than this one [Musa (Moses)], who is Mahin [has no honour nor any respect, and is weak and despicable] and can scarcely express himself clearly?

أَمْ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِّنْ هَٰذَا

Am I not better than this one

الَّذِي هُوَ مَهِينٌ

who is Mahin [has no honour nor any respect, and is weak and despicable]

وَلَا يَكَادُ يُبِينُ

and can scarcely express himself clearly?

أَمْ

[43:53] "Why then are not golden bracelets bestowed on him, or angels sent along with him?"

فَلَوْلَا أُلْقِيَ عَلَيْهِ

أَسْوِرَةٌ مِّن ذَهَبٍ

golden bracelets

أَوْ جَاءَ مَعَهُ

or sent along with him

الْمَلَائِكَةُ مُقْتَرِنِينَ

angels

فَلَوْلَا

[43:54] Thus he [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] befooled and misled his people, and they obeyed him. Verily, they were ever a people who were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).

فَاسْتَخَفَّ قَوْمَهُ

Thus he [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] befooled and misled his people,

فَأَطَاعُوهُ ۚ

and they obeyed him.

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمًا فَاسِقِينَ

Verily, they were ever a people who were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).

فَاسْتَخَفَّ

[43:55] So when they angered Us, We punished them, and drowned them all.

فَلَمَّا آسَفُونَا

[43:57] And when the son of Maryam (Mary) is quoted as an example [i.e. 'Iesa (Jesus) is worshipped like their idols), behold! Your people cry aloud (laugh out at the example).

۞ وَلَمَّا ضُرِبَ ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ مَثَلًا

And when the son of Maryam (Mary) is quoted as an example

إِذَا قَوْمُكَ مِنْهُ يَصِدُّونَ

behold! Your people cry aloud (laugh out at the example)

[43:58] And say: "Are our aliha (gods) better or is he ['Iesa (Jesus)]?" They quoted not the above example except for argument. Nay! But they are a quarrelsome people. [(See VV. 21:97-101) - The Quran.]

وَقَالُوا

And say:

أَآلِهَتُنَا خَيْرٌ أَمْ هُوَ ۚ

Are our aliha (gods) better or is he ['Iesa (Jesus)]?

مَا ضَرَبُوهُ لَكَ إِلَّا جَدَلًا ۚ

They quoted not the above example except for argument.

بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ خَصِمُونَ

Nay! But they are a quarrelsome people.

[43:59] He ['Iesa (Jesus)] was not more than a slave. We granted Our Favour to him, and We made him an example to the Children of Israel (i.e. his creation without a father).

[43:60] And if it were Our Will, We would have [destroyed you (mankind) all, and] made angels to replace you on the earth. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol: 25, Page 89].

وَلَوْ نَشَاءُ

And if it were Our Will,

لَجَعَلْنَا مِنكُم

We would have made from you

مَّلَائِكَةً فِي الْأَرْضِ

angels to replace you on the earth.

يَخْلُفُونَ

[43:61] And he ['Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)] shall be a known sign for (the coming of) the Hour (Day of Resurrection) [i.e. 'Iesa's (Jesus) descent on the earth]. Therefore have no doubt concerning it (i.e. the Day of Resurrection). And follow Me (Allah) (i.e. be obedient to Allah and do what He orders you to do, O mankind)! This is the Straight Path (of Islamic Monotheism, leading to Allah and to His Paradise).

وَإِنَّهُ لَعِلْمٌ لِّلسَّاعَةِ

And he ['Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)] shall be a known sign for (the coming of) the Hour (Day of Resurrection)

فَلَا تَمْتَرُنَّ بِهَا

[43:63] And when 'Iesa (Jesus) came with (Our) clear Proofs, he said: "I have come to you with Al-Hikmah (Prophethood), and in order to make clear to you some of the (points) in which you differ, therefore fear Allah and obey me,

وَلَمَّا جَاءَ عِيسَىٰ بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ

And when 'Iesa (Jesus) came with (Our) clear Proofs,

قَالَ قَدْ جِئْتُكُم بِالْحِكْمَةِ

he said: 'I have come to you with Al-Hikmah (Prophethood),

وَلِأُبَيِّنَ لَكُم بَعْضَ الَّذِي تَخْتَلِفُونَ فِيهِ ۖ

and in order to make clear to you some of the (points) in which you differ,

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

therefore fear Allah and obey me.

Verily, Allah! He is my Lord (God)

وَرَبُّكُمْ

[43:65] But the sects from among themselves differed. So woe to those who do wrong (by ascribing things to 'Iesa (Jesus) that are not true) from the torment of a painful Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)!

فَاخْتَلَفَ الْأَحْزَابُ مِن بَيْنِهِمْ ۖ

But the sects from among themselves differed.

فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا

So woe to those who do wrong

مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمٍ أَلِيمٍ

by ascribing things to 'Iesa (Jesus) that are not true

No fear shall be on you this Day,

nor shall you grieve,

[43:71] Trays of gold and cups will be passed round them, (there will be) therein all that the one's inner-selves could desire, all that the eyes could delight in, and you will abide therein forever.

يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِصِحَافٍ مِّن ذَهَبٍ وَأَكْوَابٍ ۖ

Trays of gold and cups will be passed round them

وَفِيهَا مَا تَشْتَهِيهِ الْأَنفُسُ

therein all that the one's inner-selves could desire

وَتَلَذُّ الْأَعْيُنُ ۖ

all that the eyes could delight in

عَلَيْنَا رَبُّكَ ۖ قَالَ

Let your Lord make an end of us

إِنَّكُم

مَّاكِثُونَ

(will) remain · Root: م ك ث · Noun

لَقَدْ جِئْنَاكُم بِالْحَقِّ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَكُمْ لِلْحَقِّ كَارِهُونَ ٧٨

[43:78] Indeed We have brought the truth (Muhammad SAW with the Quran), to you, but most of you have a hatred for the truth.

لَقَدْ جِئْنَاكُم بِالْحَقِّ

Indeed We have brought the truth

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَكُمْ

but most of you

لِلْحَقِّ كَارِهُونَ

have a hatred for the truth

لَقَدْ

Certainly · Root: ق د · Particle

جِئْنَاكُم

بِالْحَقِّ

وَلَٰكِنَّ

but · Particle

أَكْثَرَكُمْ

لِلْحَقِّ

كَارِهُونَ

(are) averse · Root: ك ر ه · Noun

أَمْ أَبْرَمُوا أَمْرًا فَإِنَّا مُبْرِمُونَ ٧٩

[43:79] Or have they plotted some plan? Then We too are planning.

أَمْ أَبْرَمُوا أَمْرًا

Or have they plotted some plan?

فَإِنَّا مُبْرِمُونَ

Then We too are planning.

أَمْ

أَمْرًا

an affair · Root: ا م ر · Noun

فَإِنَّا

Then indeed, We · Root: أ ن ا · Particle

مُبْرِمُونَ

(are) determined · Root: ب ر م · Noun

أَمْ يَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّا لَا نَسْمَعُ سِرَّهُمْ وَنَجْوَاهُم ۚ بَلَىٰ وَرُسُلُنَا لَدَيْهِمْ يَكْتُبُونَ ٨٠

[43:80] Or do they think that We hear not their secrets and their private counsel? (Yes We do) and Our Messengers (appointed angels in charge of mankind) are by them, to record.

أَمْ يَحْسَبُونَ

Or do they think that

أَنَّا لَا نَسْمَعُ سِرَّهُمْ وَنَجْوَاهُم ۚ

We hear not their secrets and their private counsel?

بَلَىٰ

(Yes We do)

وَرُسُلُنَا لَدَيْهِمْ يَكْتُبُونَ

and Our Messengers (appointed angels in charge of mankind) are by them, to record.

أَمْ

يَكْتُبُونَ

قُلْ إِن كَانَ لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ وَلَدٌ فَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْعَابِدِينَ ٨١

[43:81] Say (O Muhammad SAW): "If the Most Beneficent (Allah) had a son (or children as you pretend), then I am the first of Allah's worshippers [who deny and refute this claim of yours (and the first to believe in Allah Alone and testify that He has no children)]." [Tafsir At-Tabari].

قُلْ

Say (O Muhammad SAW):

إِن كَانَ لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ وَلَدٌ

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ ٨٢

[43:82] Glorified be the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of the Throne! Exalted be He from all that they ascribe (to Him).

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ

Glorified be the Lord of the heavens

وَالْأَرْضِ

and the earth

رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ

the Lord of the Throne!

عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ

Exalted be He from all that they ascribe (to Him).

سُبْحَانَ

فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا وَيَلْعَبُوا حَتَّىٰ يُلَاقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ ٨٣

[43:83] So leave them (alone) to speak nonsense and play until they meet the Day of theirs, which they have been promised.

فَذَرْهُمْ

So leave them (alone)

يَخُوضُوا وَيَلْعَبُوا

to speak nonsense and play

حَتَّىٰ يُلَاقُوا

until they meet

يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ

the Day of theirs, which they have been promised

فَذَرْهُمْ

(to) converse vainly · Root: خ و ض · Verb

وَيَلْعَبُوا

حَتَّىٰ

يَوْمَهُمُ

الَّذِي

وَهُوَ الَّذِي فِي السَّمَاءِ إِلَٰهٌ وَفِي الْأَرْضِ إِلَٰهٌ ۚ وَهُوَ الْحَكِيمُ الْعَلِيمُ ٨٤

[43:84] It is He (Allah) Who is the only Ilah (God to be worshipped) in the heaven and the only Ilah (God to be worshipped) on the earth. And He is the All-Wise, the All-Knower.

وَهُوَ الَّذِي

It is He (Allah) Who

فِي السَّمَاءِ إِلَٰهٌ

is the only Ilah (God to be worshipped) in the heaven

وَفِي الْأَرْضِ إِلَٰهٌ ۚ

and the only Ilah (God to be worshipped) on the earth.

وَهُوَ الْحَكِيمُ الْعَلِيمُ

And He is the All-Wise, the All-Knower.

وَهُوَ

وَتَبَارَكَ الَّذِي لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَعِندَهُ عِلْمُ السَّاعَةِ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ ٨٥

[43:85] And blessed be He to Whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, and with Whom is the knowledge of the Hour, and to Whom you (all) will be returned.

وَتَبَارَكَ الَّذِي

And blessed be He

لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ

to Whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth

وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا

and all that is between them

وَعِندَهُ عِلْمُ السَّاعَةِ

and with Whom is the knowledge of the Hour

وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ

and to Whom you (all) will be returned

وَتَبَارَكَ

السَّاعَةِ

وَإِلَيْهِ

تُرْجَعُونَ

وَلَا يَمْلِكُ الَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ الشَّفَاعَةَ إِلَّا مَن شَهِدَ بِالْحَقِّ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ ٨٦

[43:86] And those whom they invoke instead of Him have no power of intercession; except those who bear witness to the truth (i.e. believed in the Oneness of Allah, and obeyed His Orders), and they know (the facts about the Oneness of Allah).

وَلَا يَمْلِكُ الَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ الشَّفَاعَةَ

And those whom they invoke instead of Him have no power of intercession;

إِلَّا مَن شَهِدَ بِالْحَقِّ

except those who bear witness to the truth

وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ

(i.e. believed in the Oneness of Allah, and obeyed His Orders),

وَلَا

وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّنْ خَلَقَهُمْ لَيَقُولُنَّ اللَّهُ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ يُؤْفَكُونَ ٨٧

[43:87] And if you ask them who created them, they will surely say: "Allah". How then are they turned away (from the worship of Allah, Who created them)?

وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم

And if you ask them

مَّنْ خَلَقَهُمْ

who created them

لَيَقُولُنَّ اللَّهُ ۖ

they will surely say: 'Allah'

فَأَنَّىٰ يُؤْفَكُونَ

How then are they turned away (from the worship of Allah, Who created them)?

وَلَئِن

لَيَقُولُنَّ

يُؤْفَكُونَ

are they deluded · Root: أ ف ك · Verb

وَقِيلِهِ يَا رَبِّ إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ قَوْمٌ لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ ٨٨

[43:88] (Allah has knowledge) of (Prophet Muhammad's) saying: "O my Lord! Verily, these are a people who believe not!"

وَقِيلِهِ

(Allah has knowledge) of (Prophet Muhammad's) saying:

يَا رَبِّ إِنَّ

O my Lord!

هَٰؤُلَاءِ قَوْمٌ لَّا

Verily, these are a people

يُؤْمِنُونَ

who believe not!

وَقِيلِهِ

يَا رَبِّ

إِنَّ

هَٰؤُلَاءِ

قَوْمٌ

لَّا

يُؤْمِنُونَ

فَاصْفَحْ عَنْهُمْ وَقُلْ سَلَامٌ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ ٨٩

[43:89] So turn away from them (O Muhammad SAW), and say: Salam (peace)! But they will come to know.

فَاصْفَحْ عَنْهُمْ

So turn away from them

وَقُلْ سَلَامٌ ۚ

and say: Salam (peace)!

فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ

But they will come to know.

فَاصْفَحْ
