[41:1] Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings.]

[41:2] A revelation from Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

[41:4] Giving glad tidings [of Paradise to the one who believes in the Oneness of Allah (i.e. Islamic Monotheism) and fears Allah much (abstains from all kinds of sins and evil deeds) and loves Allah much (performing all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)], and warning (of punishment in the Hell Fire to the one who disbelieves in the Oneness of Allah), but most of them turn away, so they listen not.

بَشِيرًا وَنَذِيرًا

Giving glad tidings and warning

فَأَعْرَضَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ

but most of them turn away

فَهُمْ لَا يَسْمَعُونَ

so they listen not

وَقَالُوا قُلُوبُنَا فِي أَكِنَّةٍ مِّمَّا تَدْعُونَا إِلَيْهِ وَفِي آذَانِنَا وَقْرٌ وَمِن بَيْنِنَا وَبَيْنِكَ حِجَابٌ فَاعْمَلْ إِنَّنَا عَامِلُونَ ٥

[41:5] And they say: "Our hearts are under coverings (screened) from that to which you invite us, and in our ears is deafness, and between us and you is a screen, so work you (on your way); verily, we are working (on our way)."

وَقَالُوا

And they say:

قُلُوبُنَا فِي أَكِنَّةٍ

Our hearts are under coverings (screened)

مِّمَّا تَدْعُونَا إِلَيْهِ

from that to which you invite us,

وَفِي آذَانِنَا وَقْرٌ

and in our ears is deafness,

وَمِن بَيْنِنَا وَبَيْنِكَ حِجَابٌ

and between us and you is a screen,

فَاعْمَلْ إِنَّنَا عَامِلُونَ

so work you (on your way); verily, we are working (on our way).

قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُوحَىٰ إِلَيَّ أَنَّمَا إِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ فَاسْتَقِيمُوا إِلَيْهِ وَاسْتَغْفِرُوهُ ۗ وَوَيْلٌ لِّلْمُشْرِكِينَ ٦

[41:6] Say (O Muhammad SAW): "I am only a human being like you. It is inspired in me that your Ilah (God) is One Ilah (God - Allah), therefore take Straight Path to Him (with true Faith Islamic Monotheism) and obedience to Him, and seek forgiveness of Him. And woe to Al-Mushrikun (the disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, polytheists, idolaters, etc. - see V. 2:105).

قُلْ

Say (O Muhammad SAW):

إِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ

I am only a human being like you.

يُوحَىٰ إِلَيَّ

It is inspired in me

أَنَّمَا إِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ

that your Ilah (God) is One Ilah (God - Allah),

فَاسْتَقِيمُوا إِلَيْهِ

therefore take Straight Path to Him (with true Faith Islamic Monotheism) and obedience to Him,

وَاسْتَغْفِرُوهُ ۗ

and seek forgiveness of Him.

وَوَيْلٌ لِّلْمُشْرِكِينَ

And woe to Al-Mushrikun (the disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, polytheists, idolaters, etc. - see V. 2:105).

الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْتُونَ الزَّكَاةَ وَهُم بِالْآخِرَةِ هُمْ كَافِرُونَ ٧

[41:7] Those who give not the Zakat and they are disbelievers in the Hereafter.

الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْتُونَ الزَّكَاةَ

Those who give not the Zakat

وَهُم بِالْآخِرَةِ

and they are in the Hereafter

هُمْ كَافِرُونَ

they are disbelievers.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ ٨

[41:8] Truly, those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism, and in His Messenger Muhammad SAW) and do righteous good deeds, for them will be an endless reward that will never stop (i.e. Paradise).

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا

Truly, those who believe

وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ

and do righteous good deeds

لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ

for them will be an endless reward that will never stop (i.e. Paradise)

۞ قُلْ أَئِنَّكُمْ لَتَكْفُرُونَ بِالَّذِي خَلَقَ الْأَرْضَ فِي يَوْمَيْنِ وَتَجْعَلُونَ لَهُ أَندَادًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ ٩

[41:9] Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Do you verily disbelieve in Him Who created the earth in two Days and you set up rivals (in worship) with Him? That is the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).

۞ قُلْ أَئِنَّكُمْ

Say (O Muhammad SAW):

لَتَكْفُرُونَ بِالَّذِي خَلَقَ الْأَرْضَ فِي يَوْمَيْنِ

Do you verily disbelieve in Him Who created the earth in two Days

وَتَجْعَلُونَ لَهُ أَندَادًا ۚ

and you set up rivals (in worship) with Him?

ذَٰلِكَ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ

That is the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).

۞ قُلْ

[41:10] He placed therein (i.e. the earth) firm mountains from above it, and He blessed it, and measured therein its sustenance (for its dwellers) in four Days equal (i.e. all these four 'days' were equal in the length of time), for all those who ask (about its creation).

وَجَعَلَ فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ مِن فَوْقِهَا

He placed therein (i.e. the earth) firm mountains from above it

وَبَارَكَ فِيهَا

and He blessed it

وَقَدَّرَ فِيهَا أَقْوَاتَهَا

and measured therein its sustenance (for its dwellers)

فِي أَرْبَعَةِ أَيَّامٍ سَوَاءً

in four Days equal (i.e. all these four 'days' were equal in the length of time)

لِّلسَّائِلِينَ

for all those who ask (about its creation)

ثُمَّ اسْتَوَىٰ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ وَهِيَ دُخَانٌ فَقَالَ لَهَا وَلِلْأَرْضِ ائْتِيَا طَوْعًا أَوْ كَرْهًا قَالَتَا أَتَيْنَا طَائِعِينَ ١١

[41:11] Then He Istawa (rose over) towards the heaven when it was smoke, and said to it and to the earth: "Come both of you willingly or unwillingly." They both said: "We come, willingly."

ثُمَّ اسْتَوَىٰ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ

Then He Istawa (rose over) towards the heaven

وَهِيَ دُخَانٌ

when it was smoke

فَقَالَ لَهَا وَلِلْأَرْضِ

and said to it and to the earth:

ائْتِيَا طَوْعًا أَوْ كَرْهًا

"Come both of you willingly or unwillingly."

قَالَتَا أَتَيْنَا طَائِعِينَ

They both said: "We come, willingly."

فَقَضَاهُنَّ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ فِي يَوْمَيْنِ وَأَوْحَىٰ فِي كُلِّ سَمَاءٍ أَمْرَهَا ۚ وَزَيَّنَّا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِمَصَابِيحَ وَحِفْظًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ الْعَزِيزِ الْعَلِيمِ ١٢

[41:12] Then He completed and finished from their creation (as) seven heavens in two Days and He made in each heaven its affair. And We adorned the nearest (lowest) heaven with lamps (stars) to be an adornment as well as to guard (from the devils by using them as missiles against the devils). Such is the Decree of Him the All-Mighty, the All-Knower.

فَقَضَاهُنَّ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ فِي يَوْمَيْنِ

Then He completed and finished from their creation (as) seven heavens in two Days

وَأَوْحَىٰ فِي كُلِّ سَمَاءٍ أَمْرَهَا ۚ

and He made in each heaven its affair.

وَزَيَّنَّا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِمَصَابِيحَ

And We adorned the nearest (lowest) heaven with lamps (stars)

وَحِفْظًا ۚ

to be an adornment as well as to guard

ذَٰلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ الْعَزِيزِ الْعَلِيمِ

Such is the Decree of Him the All-Mighty, the All-Knower.

فَقَضَاهُنَّ

فَإِنْ أَعْرَضُوا فَقُلْ أَنذَرْتُكُمْ صَاعِقَةً مِّثْلَ صَاعِقَةِ عَادٍ وَثَمُودَ ١٣

[41:13] But if they turn away, then say (O Muhammad SAW): "I have warned you of a Sa'iqah (a destructive awful cry, torment, hit, a thunderbolt) like the Sa'iqah which overtook 'Ad and Thamud (people)."

فَإِنْ أَعْرَضُوا

But if they turn away,

فَقُلْ أَنذَرْتُكُمْ

then say (O Muhammad SAW): 'I have warned you of

صَاعِقَةً مِّثْلَ صَاعِقَةِ عَادٍ وَثَمُودَ

a Sa'iqah (a destructive awful cry, torment, hit, a thunderbolt) like the Sa'iqah which overtook 'Ad and Thamud (people).

فَإِنْ

إِذْ جَاءَتْهُمُ الرُّسُلُ مِن بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا اللَّهَ ۖ قَالُوا لَوْ شَاءَ رَبُّنَا لَأَنزَلَ مَلَائِكَةً فَإِنَّا بِمَا أُرْسِلْتُم بِهِ كَافِرُونَ ١٤

[41:14] When the Messengers came to them, from before them and behind them (saying): "Worship none but Allah" They said: "If our Lord had so willed, He would surely have sent down the angels. So indeed! We disbelieve in that with which you have been sent."

إِذْ جَاءَتْهُمُ الرُّسُلُ

When the Messengers came to them,

مِن بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ

from before them and behind them

أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا اللَّهَ ۖ

(saying): 'Worship none but Allah'

قَالُوا

They said:

لَوْ شَاءَ رَبُّنَا لَأَنزَلَ مَلَائِكَةً

'If our Lord had so willed, He would surely have sent down the angels.

فَإِنَّا بِمَا أُرْسِلْتُم بِهِ كَافِرُونَ

So indeed! We disbelieve in that with which you have been sent.

فَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَاسْتَكْبَرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ الْحَقِّ وَقَالُوا مَنْ أَشَدُّ مِنَّا قُوَّةً ۖ أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَنَّ اللَّهَ الَّذِي خَلَقَهُمْ هُوَ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً ۖ وَكَانُوا بِآيَاتِنَا يَجْحَدُونَ ١٥

[41:15] As for 'Ad, they were arrogant in the land without right, and they said: "Who is mightier than us in strength?" See they not that Allah, Who created them was mightier in strength than them. And they used to deny Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, revelations, etc.)!

فَأَمَّا عَادٌ

As for 'Ad,

فَاسْتَكْبَرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ الْحَقِّ

they were arrogant in the land without right,

وَقَالُوا مَنْ أَشَدُّ مِنَّا قُوَّةً ۖ

and they said: 'Who is mightier than us in strength?'

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَنَّ اللَّهَ الَّذِي خَلَقَهُمْ

See they not that Allah, Who created them

هُوَ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً ۖ

was mightier in strength than them.

وَكَانُوا بِآيَاتِنَا يَجْحَدُونَ

And they used to deny Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, revelations, etc.)!

فَأَمَّا

فَأَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِي أَيَّامٍ نَّحِسَاتٍ لِّنُذِيقَهُمْ عَذَابَ الْخِزْيِ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۖ وَلَعَذَابُ الْآخِرَةِ أَخْزَىٰ ۖ وَهُمْ لَا يُنصَرُونَ ١٦

[41:16] So We sent upon them furious wind in days of evil omen (for them) that We might give them a taste of disgracing torment in this present worldly life, but surely the torment of the Hereafter will be more disgracing, and they will never be helped.

فَأَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا

So We sent upon them furious wind

فِي أَيَّامٍ نَّحِسَاتٍ

in days of evil omen (for them)

لِّنُذِيقَهُمْ عَذَابَ الْخِزْيِ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۖ

وَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَهَدَيْنَاهُمْ فَاسْتَحَبُّوا الْعَمَىٰ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ فَأَخَذَتْهُمْ صَاعِقَةُ الْعَذَابِ الْهُونِ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ ١٧

[41:17] And as for Thamud, We showed and made clear to them the Path of Truth (Islamic Monotheism) through Our Messenger, (i.e. showed them the way of success), but they preferred blindness to guidance, so the Sa'iqah (a destructive awful cry, torment, hit, a thunderbolt) of disgracing torment seized them, because of what they used to earn.

وَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ

And as for Thamud,

فَهَدَيْنَاهُمْ

We showed and made clear to them

فَاسْتَحَبُّوا الْعَمَىٰ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ

And (remember) the Day that the enemies of Allah will be gathered

إِلَى النَّارِ

to the Fire

[41:20] Till, when they reach it (Hell-fire), their hearing (ears) and their eyes, and their skins will testify against them as to what they used to do.

حَتَّىٰ إِذَا مَا جَاءُوهَا

Till, when they reach it (Hell-fire),

شَهِدَ عَلَيْهِمْ

their hearing (ears) and their eyes, and their skins will testify against them

سَمْعُهُمْ وَأَبْصَارُهُمْ وَجُلُودُهُم

as to what they used to do.

[41:21] And they will say to their skins, "Why do you testify against us?" They will say: "Allah has caused us to speak, as He causes all things to speak, and He created you the first time, and to Him you are made to return."

وَقَالُوا لِجُلُودِهِمْ

And they will say to their skins,

لِمَ شَهِدتُّمْ عَلَيْنَا ۖ

Why do you testify against us?

قَالُوا أَنطَقَنَا اللَّهُ

They will say: Allah has caused us to speak,

الَّذِي أَنطَقَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ

as He causes all things to speak,

وَهُوَ خَلَقَكُمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ

and He created you the first time,

وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ

and to Him you are made to return.

وَقَالُوا

[41:22] And you have not been hiding against yourselves, lest your ears, and your eyes, and your skins testify against you, but you thought that Allah knew not much of what you were doing.

وَمَا كُنتُمْ تَسْتَتِرُونَ

And you have not been hiding

أَن يَشْهَدَ عَلَيْكُمْ

against yourselves, lest your

سَمْعُكُمْ وَلَا أَبْصَارُكُمْ وَلَا جُلُودُكُمْ

ears, and your eyes, and your skins testify against you,

وَلَٰكِن ظَنَنتُمْ

but you thought that

أَنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَعْلَمُ كَثِيرًا مِّمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ

Allah knew not much of what you were doing.

وَمَا

[41:23] And that thought of yours which you thought about your Lord, has brought you to destruction, and you have become (this Day) of those utterly lost!

وَذَٰلِكُمْ ظَنُّكُمُ

And that thought of yours

الَّذِي ظَنَنتُم بِرَبِّكُمْ

which you thought about your Lord,

أَرْدَاكُمْ

has brought you to destruction,

فَأَصْبَحْتُم

and you have become

مِّنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ

(this Day) of those utterly lost!

وَذَٰلِكُمْ

[41:24] Then, if they have patience, yet the Fire will be a home for them, and if they beg for to be excused, yet they are not of those who will ever be excused.

فَإِن يَصْبِرُوا

Then, if they have patience,

فَالنَّارُ مَثْوًى لَّهُمْ ۖ

yet the Fire will be a home for them,

وَإِن يَسْتَعْتِبُوا

and if they beg for to be excused,

فَمَا هُم مِّنَ الْمُعْتَبِينَ

yet they are not of those who will ever be excused.

فَإِن

۞ وَقَيَّضْنَا لَهُمْ قُرَنَاءَ فَزَيَّنُوا لَهُم مَّا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَحَقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقَوْلُ فِي أُمَمٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنسِ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا خَاسِرِينَ ٢٥

[41:25] And We have assigned them (devils) intimate companions (in this world), who have made fair-seeming to them, what was before them (evil deeds which they were doing in the present worldly life and disbelief in the Reckoning and the Resurrection, etc.) and what was behind them (denial of the matters in the coming life of the Hereafter as regards punishment or reward, etc.). And the Word (i.e. the torment) is justified against them as it was justified against those who were among the previous generations of jinns and men that had passed away before them. Indeed they (all) were the losers.

۞ وَقَيَّضْنَا لَهُمْ قُرَنَاءَ

And We have assigned them (devils) intimate companions

فَزَيَّنُوا لَهُم مَّا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ

who have made fair-seeming to them, what was before them and what was behind them

وَحَقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقَوْلُ

And the Word (i.e. the torment) is justified against them

فِي أُمَمٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِم

as it was justified against those who were among the previous generations

مِّنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنسِ ۖ

of jinns and men

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا خَاسِرِينَ

Indeed they (all) were the losers

۞ وَقَيَّضْنَا

[41:26] And those who disbelieve say: "Listen not to this Quran, and make noise in the midst of its (recitation) that you may overcome."

وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا

And those who disbelieve say:

لَا تَسْمَعُوا لِهَٰذَا الْقُرْآنِ

Listen not to this Quran,

وَالْغَوْا فِيهِ

and make noise in the midst of its (recitation)

لَعَلَّكُمْ تَغْلِبُونَ

that you may overcome.

وَقَالَ

[41:27] But surely, We shall cause those who disbelieve to taste a severe torment, and certainly, We shall requite them the worst of what they used to do.

فَلَنُذِيقَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا

But surely, We shall cause those who disbelieve to taste

عَذَابًا شَدِيدًا

a severe torment

وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ

and certainly, We shall requite them

أَسْوَأَ الَّذِي كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

the worst of what they used to do

فَلَنُذِيقَنَّ

[41:28] That is the recompense of the enemies of Allah: The Fire, therein will be for them the eternal home, a (deserving) recompense for that they used to deny Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.).

ذَٰلِكَ جَزَاءُ أَعْدَاءِ اللَّهِ

That is the recompense of the enemies of Allah:

النَّارُ ۖ

The Fire,

لَهُمْ فِيهَا دَارُ الْخُلْدِ ۖ

therein will be for them the eternal home,

جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا بِآيَاتِنَا يَجْحَدُونَ

a (deserving) recompense for that they used to deny Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.).

وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا رَبَّنَا أَرِنَا اللَّذَيْنِ أَضَلَّانَا مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنسِ نَجْعَلْهُمَا تَحْتَ أَقْدَامِنَا لِيَكُونَا مِنَ الْأَسْفَلِينَ ٢٩

[41:29] And those who disbelieve will say: "Our Lord! Show us those among jinns and men who led us astray, we shall crush them under our feet, so that they become the lowest."

وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا

And those who disbelieve will say:

رَبَّنَا أَرِنَا

Our Lord! Show us

اللَّذَيْنِ أَضَلَّانَا

those among jinns and men who led us astray,

نَجْعَلْهُمَا تَحْتَ أَقْدَامِنَا

we shall crush them under our feet,

لِيَكُونَا مِنَ الْأَسْفَلِينَ

so that they become the lowest.

وَقَالَ

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا رَبُّنَا اللَّهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَقَامُوا تَتَنَزَّلُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ أَلَّا تَخَافُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا وَأَبْشِرُوا بِالْجَنَّةِ الَّتِي كُنتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ ٣٠

[41:30] Verily, those who say: "Our Lord is Allah (Alone)," and then they Istaqamu, on them the angels will descend (at the time of their death) (saying): "Fear not, nor grieve! But receive the glad tidings of Paradise which you have been promised!

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا رَبُّنَا اللَّهُ

Verily, those who say: 'Our Lord is Allah (Alone),'

ثُمَّ اسْتَقَامُوا

and then they Istaqamu,

تَتَنَزَّلُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ

on them the angels will descend (at the time of their death)

أَلَّا تَخَافُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا

(saying): 'Fear not, nor grieve!

وَأَبْشِرُوا بِالْجَنَّةِ

But receive the glad tidings of Paradise

الَّتِي كُنتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ

which you have been promised!

[41:31] "We have been your friends in the life of this world and are (so) in the Hereafter. Therein you shall have (all) that your inner-selves desire, and therein you shall have (all) for which you ask for.

نَحْنُ أَوْلِيَاؤُكُمْ

We have been your friends

فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا

in the life of this world

وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ ۖ

and are (so) in the Hereafter.

وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا

and therein you shall have

مَا تَشْتَهِي أَنفُسُكُمْ

(all) that your inner-selves desire,

وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا

(all) for which you ask for.

[41:33] And who is better in speech than he who [says: "My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness)," and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: "I am one of the Muslims."

وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ قَوْلًا

And who is better in speech

مِّمَّن دَعَا إِلَى اللَّهِ

than he who invites (men) to Allah's

وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا

and does righteous deeds

وَقَالَ إِنَّنِي مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ

and says: 'I am one of the Muslims.'

وَلَا تَسْتَوِي الْحَسَنَةُ وَلَا السَّيِّئَةُ ۚ ادْفَعْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ فَإِذَا الَّذِي بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَهُ عَدَاوَةٌ كَأَنَّهُ وَلِيٌّ حَمِيمٌ ٣٤

[41:34] The good deed and the evil deed cannot be equal. Repel (the evil) with one which is better (i.e. Allah ordered the faithful believers to be patient at the time of anger, and to excuse those who treat them badly), then verily! he, between whom and you there was enmity, (will become) as though he was a close friend.

وَلَا تَسْتَوِي الْحَسَنَةُ وَلَا السَّيِّئَةُ ۚ

The good deed and the evil deed cannot be equal.

ادْفَعْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ

Repel (the evil) with one which is better.

فَإِذَا الَّذِي بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَهُ عَدَاوَةٌ

[41:35] But none is granted it (the above quality) except those who are patient, and none is granted it except the owner of the great portion (of the happiness in the Hereafter i.e. Paradise and in this world of a high moral character).

إِلَّا الَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا

except those who are patient

وَمَا يُلَقَّاهَا إِلَّا ذُو

[41:36] And if an evil whisper from Shaitan (Satan) tries to turn you away (O Muhammad SAW) (from doing good, etc.), then seek refuge in Allah. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.

[41:37] And from among His Signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Prostrate not to the sun nor to the moon, but prostrate to Allah Who created them, if you (really) worship Him.

وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ

And from among His Signs are

اللَّيْلُ وَالنَّهَارُ

the night and the day,

وَالشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ ۚ

and the sun and the moon.

لَا تَسْجُدُوا لِلشَّمْسِ وَلَا لِلْقَمَرِ

Prostrate not to the sun nor to the moon,

وَاسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ

but prostrate to Allah

الَّذِي خَلَقَهُنَّ

Who created them,

إِن كُنتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ

if you (really) worship Him.

[41:38] But if they are too proud (to do so), then there are those who are with your Lord (angels) glorify Him night and day, and never are they tired.

فَإِنِ اسْتَكْبَرُوا

But if they are too proud (to do so)

فَالَّذِينَ عِندَ رَبِّكَ

then there are those who are with your Lord (angels)

يُسَبِّحُونَ لَهُ

glorify Him

بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ

night and day

وَهُمْ لَا يَسْأَمُونَ ۩

and never are they tired

فَإِنِ

[41:39] And among His Signs (in this), that you see the earth barren, but when We send down water (rain) to it, it is stirred to life and growth (of vegetations). Verily, He Who gives it life, surely, (He) is Able to give life to the dead (on the Day of Resurrection). Indeed! He is Able to do all things.

وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ

And among His Signs

أَنَّكَ تَرَى الْأَرْضَ خَاشِعَةً

that you see the earth barren

فَإِذَا أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْهَا الْمَاءَ

but when We send down water (rain) to it

اهْتَزَّتْ وَرَبَتْ ۚ

it is stirred to life and growth (of vegetations)

إِنَّ الَّذِي أَحْيَاهَا

Verily, He Who gives it life

لَمُحْيِي الْمَوْتَىٰ ۚ

surely, (He) is Able to give life to the dead (on the Day of Resurrection)

إِنَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Indeed! He is Able to do all things

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُلْحِدُونَ فِي آيَاتِنَا لَا يَخْفَوْنَ عَلَيْنَا ۗ أَفَمَن يُلْقَىٰ فِي النَّارِ خَيْرٌ أَم مَّن يَأْتِي آمِنًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ۚ اعْمَلُوا مَا شِئْتُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ ٤٠

[41:40] Verily, those who turn away from Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc. by attacking, distorting and denying them), are not hidden from Us. Is he who is cast into the Fire better or he who comes secure on the Day of Resurrection? Do what you will. Verily! He is All-Seer of what you do (this is a severe threat to the disbelievers).

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُلْحِدُونَ فِي آيَاتِنَا

Verily, those who turn away from Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc. by attacking, distorting and denying them),

لَا يَخْفَوْنَ عَلَيْنَا ۗ

are not hidden from Us.

أَفَمَن يُلْقَىٰ فِي النَّارِ خَيْرٌ

Is he who is cast into the Fire better

أَم مَّن يَأْتِي آمِنًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ۚ

or he who comes secure on the Day of Resurrection?

اعْمَلُوا مَا شِئْتُمْ ۖ

Do what you will.

إِنَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ

Verily! He is All-Seer of what you do (this is a severe threat to the disbelievers).

[41:41] Verily, those who disbelieved in the Reminder (i.e. the Quran) when it came to them (shall receive the punishment). And verily, it is an honourable respected Book (because it is Allah's Speech, and He has protected it from corruption, etc.). (See V. 15:9]

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِالذِّكْرِ

Verily, those who disbelieved in the Reminder (i.e. the Quran)

لَمَّا جَاءَهُمْ ۖ

when it came to them

وَإِنَّهُ لَكِتَابٌ عَزِيزٌ

And verily, it is an honourable respected Book

[41:42] Falsehood cannot come to it from before it or behind it (it is) sent down by the All-Wise, Worthy of all praise (Allah).

لَّا يَأْتِيهِ الْبَاطِلُ

Falsehood cannot come to it

مِن بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَلَا مِنْ خَلْفِهِ ۖ

from before it or behind it

تَنزِيلٌ مِّنْ حَكِيمٍ حَمِيدٍ

(it is) sent down by the All-Wise, Worthy of all praise (Allah)

مَّا يُقَالُ لَكَ إِلَّا مَا قَدْ قِيلَ لِلرُّسُلِ مِن قَبْلِكَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو مَغْفِرَةٍ وَذُو عِقَابٍ أَلِيمٍ ٤٣

[41:43] Nothing is said to you (O Muhammad SAW) except what was said to the Messengers before you. Verily, your Lord is the Possessor of forgiveness, and (also) the Possessor of painful punishment.

مَّا يُقَالُ لَكَ إِلَّا مَا قَدْ قِيلَ لِلرُّسُلِ مِن قَبْلِكَ ۚ

Nothing is said to you (O Muhammad SAW) except what was said to the Messengers before you.

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو مَغْفِرَةٍ

Verily, your Lord is the Possessor of forgiveness,

وَذُو عِقَابٍ أَلِيمٍ

and (also) the Possessor of painful punishment.

وَلَوْ جَعَلْنَاهُ قُرْآنًا أَعْجَمِيًّا لَّقَالُوا لَوْلَا فُصِّلَتْ آيَاتُهُ ۖ أَأَعْجَمِيٌّ وَعَرَبِيٌّ ۗ قُلْ هُوَ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا هُدًى وَشِفَاءٌ ۖ وَالَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ فِي آذَانِهِمْ وَقْرٌ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَمًى ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ يُنَادَوْنَ مِن مَّكَانٍ بَعِيدٍ ٤٤

[41:44] And if We had sent this as a Quran in a foreign language other than Arabic, they would have said: "Why are not its Verses explained in detail (in our language)? What! (A Book) not in Arabic and (the Messenger) an Arab?" Say: "It is for those who believe, a guide and a healing. And as for those who disbelieve, there is heaviness (deafness) in their ears, and it (the Quran) is blindness for them. They are those who are called from a place far away (so they neither listen nor understand).

وَلَوْ جَعَلْنَاهُ قُرْآنًا أَعْجَمِيًّا

And if We had sent this as a Quran in a foreign language

لَّقَالُوا لَوْلَا فُصِّلَتْ آيَاتُهُ ۖ

they would have said: 'Why are not its Verses explained in detail'

أَأَعْجَمِيٌّ وَعَرَبِيٌّ ۗ

(in our language)? What! (A Book) not in Arabic and (the Messenger) an Arab?

قُلْ هُوَ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا

Say: 'It is for those who believe,

هُدًى وَشِفَاءٌ ۖ

a guide and a healing.'

وَالَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

And as for those who disbelieve,

فِي آذَانِهِمْ وَقْرٌ

there is heaviness (deafness) in their ears,

وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَمًى ۚ

and it (the Quran) is blindness for them.

أُولَٰئِكَ يُنَادَوْنَ مِن مَّكَانٍ بَعِيدٍ

They are those who are called from a place far away (so they neither listen nor understand).

[41:45] And indeed We gave Musa (Moses) the Scripture, but dispute arose therein. And had it not been for a Word that went forth before from your Lord, (the torment would have overtaken them) and the matter would have been settled between them. But truly, they are in grave doubt thereto (i.e. about the Quran). [Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 15, Page 370]

وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ

And indeed We gave Musa (Moses) the Scripture,

فَاخْتُلِفَ فِيهِ ۗ

وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِن رَّبِّكَ

[41:46] Whosoever does righteous good deed it is for (the benefit of) his ownself, and whosoever does evil, it is against his ownself, and your Lord is not at all unjust to (His) slaves.

مَّنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا

Whosoever does righteous good deed

فَلِنَفْسِهِ ۖ

it is for (the benefit of) his ownself

وَمَنْ أَسَاءَ

and whosoever does evil

فَعَلَيْهَا ۗ

it is against his ownself

وَمَا رَبُّكَ بِظَلَّامٍ لِّلْعَبِيدِ

and your Lord is not at all unjust to (His) slaves

مَّنْ

۞ إِلَيْهِ يُرَدُّ عِلْمُ السَّاعَةِ ۚ وَمَا تَخْرُجُ مِن ثَمَرَاتٍ مِّنْ أَكْمَامِهَا وَمَا تَحْمِلُ مِنْ أُنثَىٰ وَلَا تَضَعُ إِلَّا بِعِلْمِهِ ۚ وَيَوْمَ يُنَادِيهِمْ أَيْنَ شُرَكَائِي قَالُوا آذَنَّاكَ مَا مِنَّا مِن شَهِيدٍ ٤٧

[41:47] (The learned men) refer to Him (Alone) the knowledge of the Hour. No fruit comes out of its sheath, nor does a female conceive (within her womb), nor brings forth (young), except by His Knowledge. And on the Day when He will call unto them (polytheists) (saying): "Where are My (so-called) partners (whom you did invent)?" They will say: "We inform You that none of us bears witness to it (that they are Your partners)!"

۞ إِلَيْهِ يُرَدُّ عِلْمُ السَّاعَةِ ۚ

The learned men refer to Him (Alone) the knowledge of the Hour.

وَمَا تَخْرُجُ مِن ثَمَرَاتٍ مِّنْ أَكْمَامِهَا

No fruit comes out of its sheath,

وَمَا تَحْمِلُ مِنْ أُنثَىٰ وَلَا تَضَعُ إِلَّا بِعِلْمِهِ ۚ

nor does a female conceive (within her womb), nor brings forth (young), except by His Knowledge.

وَيَوْمَ يُنَادِيهِمْ أَيْنَ شُرَكَائِي

And on the Day when He will call unto them (polytheists) (saying): 'Where are My (so-called) partners (whom you did invent)?'

قَالُوا آذَنَّاكَ مَا مِنَّا مِن شَهِيدٍ

They will say: 'We inform You that none of us bears witness to it (that they are Your partners)!'

[41:48] And those whom they used to invoke before will fail them, and they will perceive that they have no place of refuge (from Allah's punishment).

وَضَلَّ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا يَدْعُونَ مِن قَبْلُ ۖ

And those whom they used to invoke before will fail them

وَظَنُّوا مَا لَهُم مِّن مَّحِيصٍ

and they will perceive that they have no place of refuge (from Allah's punishment)

[41:49] Man (the disbeliever) does not get tired of asking good (things from Allah), but if an evil touches him, then he gives up all hope and is lost in despair.

لَّا يَسْأَمُ الْإِنسَانُ

Man (the disbeliever) does not get tired

مِن دُعَاءِ الْخَيْرِ

of asking good (things from Allah)

وَإِن مَّسَّهُ الشَّرُّ

but if an evil touches him

فَيَئُوسٌ قَنُوطٌ

then he gives up all hope and is lost in despair.

وَلَئِنْ أَذَقْنَاهُ رَحْمَةً مِّنَّا مِن بَعْدِ ضَرَّاءَ مَسَّتْهُ لَيَقُولَنَّ هَٰذَا لِي وَمَا أَظُنُّ السَّاعَةَ قَائِمَةً وَلَئِن رُّجِعْتُ إِلَىٰ رَبِّي إِنَّ لِي عِندَهُ لَلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ فَلَنُنَبِّئَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِمَا عَمِلُوا وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُم مِّنْ عَذَابٍ غَلِيظٍ ٥٠

[41:50] And truly, if We give him a taste of mercy from us, after some adversity (severe poverty or disease, etc.) has touched him, he is sure to say: "This is for me (due to my merit), I think not that the Hour will be established. But if I am brought back to my Lord, Surely, there will be for me the best (wealth, etc.) with Him. Then, We verily, will show to the disbelievers what they have done and We shall make them taste a severe torment.

وَلَئِنْ أَذَقْنَاهُ رَحْمَةً مِّنَّا

And truly, if We give him a taste of mercy from us,

مِن بَعْدِ ضَرَّاءَ مَسَّتْهُ

after some adversity (severe poverty or disease, etc.) has touched him,

لَيَقُولَنَّ هَٰذَا لِي

he is sure to say: 'This is for me (due to my merit),

وَمَا أَظُنُّ السَّاعَةَ قَائِمَةً

I think not that the Hour will be established.

وَلَئِن رُّجِعْتُ إِلَىٰ رَبِّي

But if I am brought back to my Lord,

إِنَّ لِي عِندَهُ لَلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ

Surely, there will be for me the best (wealth, etc.) with Him.

فَلَنُنَبِّئَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِمَا عَمِلُوا

Then, We verily, will show to the disbelievers what they have done

وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُم مِّنْ عَذَابٍ غَلِيظٍ

and We shall make them taste a severe torment.

وَلَئِنْ

[41:51] And when We show favour to man, he withdraws and turns away, but when evil touches him, then he has recourse to long supplications.

وَإِذَا أَنْعَمْنَا عَلَى الْإِنسَانِ

And when We show favour to man,

أَعْرَضَ وَنَأَىٰ بِجَانِبِهِ

he withdraws and turns away,

وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ

but when evil touches him,

فَذُو دُعَاءٍ عَرِيضٍ

then he has recourse to long supplications.

[41:52] Say: "Tell me, if it (the Quran) is from Allah, and you disbelieve in it, who is more astray than one who is in opposition far away (from Allah's Right Path and His obedience).

قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ

Say: 'Tell me,

إِن كَانَ مِنْ عِندِ اللَّهِ

if it (the Quran) is from Allah,

ثُمَّ كَفَرْتُم بِهِ

and you disbelieve in it,

مَنْ أَضَلُّ مِمَّنْ

who is more astray than one who is

هُوَ فِي شِقَاقٍ بَعِيدٍ

in opposition far away (from Allah's Right Path and His obedience).

سَنُرِيهِمْ آيَاتِنَا فِي الْآفَاقِ وَفِي أَنفُسِهِمْ حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ ۗ أَوَلَمْ يَكْفِ بِرَبِّكَ أَنَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ ٥٣

[41:53] We will show them Our Signs in the universe, and in their ownselves, until it becomes manifest to them that this (the Quran) is the truth. Is it not sufficient in regard to your Lord that He is a Witness over all things?

سَنُرِيهِمْ آيَاتِنَا

We will show them Our Signs

فِي الْآفَاقِ

in the universe,

وَفِي أَنفُسِهِمْ

and in their ownselves,

حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ

until it becomes manifest to them

أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ ۗ

that this (the Quran) is the truth.

أَوَلَمْ يَكْفِ بِرَبِّكَ

Is it not sufficient in regard to your Lord

أَنَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ

that He is a Witness over all things?

سَنُرِيهِمْ

[41:54] Verily! They are in doubt concerning the Meeting with their Lord? (i.e. Resurrection after their deaths, and their return to their Lord). Verily! He it is Who is surrounding all things!

أَلَا إِنَّهُمْ فِي مِرْيَةٍ

Verily! They are in doubt

مِّن لِّقَاءِ رَبِّهِمْ ۗ

concerning the Meeting with their Lord?

أَلَا إِنَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ مُّحِيطٌ

(i.e. Resurrection after their deaths, and their return to their Lord).
